Importing and Exporting Journeys

If you are familiar with GreenRope’s Journeys, then you understand how powerful they can be. However, what truly makes a customer journey unique and effective is the ability to collaborate and share with the rest of your team. Having the functionality to import and export journeys means that you can easily share your journeys with others. This allows you to perfect your journey with team collaboration, process analysis, and standardization.

Additionally, there are a number of benefits when you export your journeys. By exporting your journeys, you can review what you have already created in GreenRope. Once exported, you retain the same benefits of importing journeys with the abilities to collaborate with your team, identify process gaps, and easily make adjustments.

For consultants and agencies, exporting journeys permits you to share your constructed journeys with other businesses and clients. Your created road maps can be reused as your client’s framework or modified template, and can even be imported into their own GreenRope account.

Another benefit of creating your journeys outside of GreenRope is that you can easily identify the gaps in your process. Easily distinguish which steps add value to your process and which don’t. Review anything that is missing from your journey and what needs to be added, then adjust these steps by simply typing them onto your file. Creating and editing journeys outside of GreenRope is done by using a JSON, or JavaScript Object Notation file. In a nutshell, these file types structure and transmit data in between servers and web applications. JSON files can be created on most desktop-based text editor applications. Several free JSON tools are also available online including JSON Editor Online and JSON Generator. Although JavaScript knowledge is not required, it is helpful when creating your journeys.



This is what your journey will look like when you export it as a .json file. 


For best practices, it is recommended that you first create a journey on the Journeys feature within GreenRope. Once you have created a journey, hover over the “Actions” bar in the upper right hand corner and save your journey. Once your journey is saved, hover over the “Actions” bar again and click “Save” then “Export”. This will download a template of your journey as a JSON file. From that file, you will be able to review the format of how your file type should be written out. The exported journey will still remain within your saved journeys on GreenRope, still accessible under Actions > Open.

The downloaded file can be edited with any desktop text editor program. It may also be used as a template when creating new journeys. When you have completed creating your journey, save the file to your desktop. Next, login to your GreenRope account and navigate to Automation > Journeys. Hover over the “Actions” bar in the upper right hand corner and click “Load”. Click on the drop down menu in the “Load Journey” screen and select the last option for “Import from File”. You will then be able to select your JSON file from your desktop and upload it directly into the account. This creates the journey onto your GreenRope account within seconds, available for all groups and instantly ready to be activated by your contacts.

When you import and export journeys, you allow yourself to review successful trends and ensure that all touch points are included in your journey. By collaborating with your team, you can gather all of your ideas and implement them onto your journey before the process is finalized.
